Bamboo pit viper (Craspedocephalus gramineus) are a arboreal snake so usually found on low to medium high bushes and trees, and often near water streams, rainforest; dry, mixed and moist deciduous forests. As they are nocturnal creature, they are found at lower heights as it sits in ambush for hunting at night. During daytime, these snakes recah at greater heights on trees.

  Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, Daman and Diu. (Not found in Indian Islands, Thar desert, North-east states and regions above Gangetic plains.)
